Rising Trajectory of India's Coking Coal Demand till 2030
09, Nov 2023
All new blast furnaces will have extra capacity for pulverised coal injection (PCI) and the PCI rate is expected to reach around 200 kg per tonne of hot metal. It is a key cost reduction tool. The PCI rate is a key measure of blast furnace steelmaking. It is even possible to go up to 220-230 kg of PCI/tonne of hot metal, but this contradicts the use of prime hard coking coal. For Indian mills, the sweet spot is 200 kg of PCI/tonne of hot metal.
