China reintroduces coal import tariffs from April 1

China has reintroduced coal import tariffs from 1 April, 2023 from 3%-6% depending on the type of coal, the Ministry of Finance said on 29 December. Earlier, the import tariffs were removed from 1 May 2022 to 31 March 2023 to ensure energy security amid supply crunch. Import tariffs for anthracite, coking coal, and lignite will resume to 3%, and 6% for other bituminous and 5% for other coal and briquette.
