China approves 15 GW of new coal-fired power capacity in H1CY'22 - study

China has approved 15 gigawatts (GW) of new coal-fired power capacity and another 30 mnt of coal-based iron-making capacity during H12022, as per the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and Global Energy Monitor (GEM). Coal is the biggest source of power generation in the country. Out of 2,466 GW of China's total power generation capacity during Jan-Aug'22, coal-fired power was at 1,110 GW, according to official data.
